The C.S. Lewis Deception

C.S. Lewis, one of the most popular “Christian” authors and intellectuals to exist, has had a big impact on many Evangelical Christians. Several Hollywood movies have been made recently based on Lewis’s Narnia novels.

Many people have referenced him as a “patron saint” of modern Christianity.

Christianity Today calls C.S. Lewis "our patron saint" ("Still Surprised by Lewis").

But, what does C.S. Lewis really believe about Christianity?

Lewis said this while traveling through Greece with his wife in 1960:

“I had some ado to prevent Joy (and myself) from lapsing into paganism in Attica! AT DAPHNI IT WAS HARD NOT TO PRAY TO APOLLO THE HEALER. BUT SOMEHOW ONE DIDN’T FEEL IT WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY WRONG--WOULD HAVE ONLY BEEN ADDRESSING CHRIST SUB SPECIE APOLLONIUS” (C.S. Lewis to Chad Walsh, May 23, 1960, cited from George Sayer, Jack: A Life of C.S. Lewis, 1994, p. 378) (Emphasis added).

Lewis is calling Apollo (a Greek sun-god) a type of Christ. This is blasphemy. Jesus Christ is the name of God’s only begotten Son. (See 1 Peter 1:3, Matthew 3:17, etc.).

1 Timothy 2:5 says:

“For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;”

Acts 4:12 says:

“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

Apollo was a pagan god worshipped by the ancient Romans and Greeks.

C.S. Lewis’s Catholic Beliefs

A Catholic Church in Poland.

Notice the All Seeing Eye of Freemasonry?

C.S. Lewis was not ashamed of confessing his sins to a Catholic priest. And, on his deathbed, a Catholic priest gave Lewis his last rites on July 16, 1963 (Roger Lancelyn Green and Walter Hooper, C.S. Lewis: A Biography, 1974, pp. 198, 301).

Other Catholic (and pagan) beliefs Lewis held included purgatory and prayers for the dead. These both are pagan practices going back to ancient Babylon and ancient Egypt (See The Two Babylons by Alexander Hislop).

C.S. Lewis said: “I believe in Purgatory ... Our souls demand Purgatory, don’t they?” (Roger Lancelyn Green and Walter Hooper, C.S. Lewis: A Biography, 1974, pp. 110-111).

C.S. Lewis wrote in Letters to Malcolm: “Of course I pray for the dead. The action is so spontaneous, so all but inevitable, that only the most compulsive theological case against it would deter men. And I hardly know how the rest of my prayers would survive if those for the dead were forbidden” (p. 109).

These are pagan and Catholic practices.

An ancient Egyptian Priest.

They also gave

the last rites.

‘In Egypt the exactions of the priests for funeral dues and masses for the dead were far from being trifling. "The priests," says Wilkinson, "induced the people to expend large sums on the celebration of funeral rites; […] and a prayer was sometimes read, the relations and friends being present as mourners. They even joined their prayers to those of the priest.’ (Alexander Hislop, The Two Babylons, pg. 140).

In his preface to Mere Christianity, C.S. Lewis writes:

'The reader should be warned that I offer no help to anyone who is hesitating between two Christian "denominations." You will not learn from me whether you ought to become an Anglican, a Methodist, a Presbyterian, or a Roman Catholic.'

Here, he is saying that Catholicism is a denomination of Christianity. As we have shown in Mystery Babylon – The Great Harlot…, Catholicism is not anything but paganism with pseudo-Christian labels.

Lewis also wrote:

"Some people draw unwarranted conclusions from the fact that I never say more about the Blessed Virgin Mary than is involved in asserting the Virgin Birth of Christ. But surely my reason for not doing so is obvious? To say more would take me at once into highly controversial regions. And there is no controversy between Christians which needs to be so delicately touched as this.” (Mere Christianity, pg. 7)

Lewis is again claiming that Catholics are Christians. (Note: Catholicism is the worship of the sun-god and “the queen of heaven”. The Bible forbids the worship of the “queen of heaven” and the worship of idols. ).

Do All Roads Lead to Heaven?

Besides his Catholic beliefs, C.S. Lewis believes that all roads lead to heaven.

Lewis wrote in Mere Christianity:

"There are other people who are slowly becoming Christians though they do not yet call themselves so. There are people who do not accept the full Christian doctrine about Christ but who are so strongly attracted by Him that they are His in a much deeper sense than they themselves understand.

There are people in other religions who are being led by God's secret influence to concentrate on those parts of their religion which are in agreement with Christianity, and who thus belong to Christ without knowing it. For example, a Buddhist of good will may be led to concentrate more and more on the Buddhist teaching about mercy and to leave in the background (though he might still say he believed) the Buddhist teaching on certain other points.

Many of the good Pagans long before Christ's birth may have been in this position.” (Mere Christianity, pp. 99,100)

But, what does the Bible say?

1 Timothy 2:5 (Emphasis added)

For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;”

Jesus Christ is both God and man and He is the one mediator between God and men!

Acts 4:12

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

John 14:6

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

Romans 8:34

"Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us."

Jesus Christ is the only name by which men can be saved (Acts 4:12). Jesus Christ is the only one who brings us salvation (when we believe on Him) (1 Timothy 2:5). Buddha is not Christ. Buddha is a pagan god.

The Bible also says:

Matthew 7:13-20

13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

Exodus 20:1-5

20 And God spake all these words, saying,

2 I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

Ecumenism of C.S. Lewis

Charles Colson

C.S. Lewis is thought very highly by ecumenical teachers, such as the late Charles Colson.

Pastor David Cloud wrote this on his website Way of Life [.org]:

“In March 1994 the Evangelicals and Catholics Together movement produced its first document. This was a programatic document entitled Evangelicals and Catholics Together: The Christian Mission in the Third Millennium. It was rightly said at the time that this document represented ‘a betrayal of the Reformation.’ I saw no connection between this and C.S. Lewis until a couple of years later when the symposium Evangelicals and Catholics Together: Working Towards a Common Mission was published. In his contribution to the book, Charles Colson--the Evangelical ‘prime mover’ behind ECT--tells us that C.S. Lewis was a major influence which led him to form the movement (Billy Graham was another!). In fact Colson says that Evangelicals and Catholics Together seeks to continue the legacy of C.S. Lewis […] (Common Mission, p. 36).” ("C.S. LEWIS AND EVANGELICALS TODAY." Way of Life [.org]. Aug. 12, 2008)

James Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family is ecumenical.

Focus on the Family has produced

audio dramas of The Chronicles of Narnia

and they strongly promote C.S. Lewis.

The Catholics hold C.S. Lewis in high regard. The Catholic World Report says this of Lewis:

"There’s no doubt about the ongoing popularity of C.S. Lewis’s many books and stories. He is one of the best-selling authors of all-time; his Narnian series alone has sold over 100 million copies since it was first published between 1950 and 1956. His works of Christian apologetics—including Mere Christianity, The Great Divorce, and The Screwtape Letters—are read and admired by Christians ranging from Catholics to Baptists to Methodists to Eastern Orthodox." (Carl. E. Olson. "The Thought and Work of C.S. Lewis." The Catholic World Report [.com]. Nov. 14, 2013.)

C.S. Lewis’s Catholic Associations

C.S. Lewis was strongly influenced by the Catholic teachings and beliefs as can be seen in his association with various priests.

Lewis and Don Giovanni Calabria, a Catholic priest from Italy, corresponded about their “concern for the reunification of the Christian churches” (The Narnian, Alan Jacobs, pp. 249, 250).

Walter Adams, a Catholic priest, was his spiritual advisor from the 1940s to the end of Lewis’s life (The Narnian, p. 224). He confessed his sins to this same priest. ("C.S. LEWIS AND EVANGELICALS TODAY." Way of Life [.org]. Aug. 12, 2008)

J.R.R. Tolkien, author of The Lord of the Rings, was a strong Roman Catholic. Both he and Lewis were known to be close friends and Lewis was “converted” to “Christianity” in part due to his friend.  ("C.S. LEWIS AND EVANGELICALS TODAY." Way of Life [.org]. Aug. 12, 2008)

Would You Like to Have a Relationship with God, Be an Adopted Child of God, and Go to Heaven?

God loves us so much that He sent His Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins and shed His precious blood to pay for all of these sins (John 3:16 and 1 Corinthians. 15:3-4). And He rose from the grave on the third day (1 Cor. 15:4).

The Bible says this about Jesus and Salvation:

John 14:6

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

1 Timothy 2:5

“For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;”

Acts 4:12

“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

HOW TO GET SAVED and KNOW GOD:

1. If you repent (turn away) from your sins (Acts 3:19),

2. and believe and confess aloud that Christ has paid for your sins with his precious blood and has risen from the dead (Romans 10:9-10),

3. and have made Him your Lord and Savior (again Romans 10:9-10) you are saved.

4. Now seek God with all your heart. Seek to know Him and you will (Jeremiah 29:13).

John 17:3 says: "And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent."
